Innovation for a Healthier Atlantic Canada

  

Over the past fifty years, the Atlantic Canadian region has experienced large changes in its population, demographics, economics, and health systems. Currently the region is growing more culturally diverse while youth outmigration is on the rise and an increasing percentage of the population are aging adults. These changes are impacting healthcare spending, community health planning as well as economic strategies. At ACPA 2019, we will discuss the future health of Atlantic Canada in an interactive, innovative format. Discussions will be focused on economic health, community health, and healthcare to share perspectives, promising practices, and explore innovative ideas and solutions for a Healthier Atlantic Canada.

Thursday January 24: Healthy Economy


Morning: Innovation for a Healthy Economy in Atlantic Canada

ACPA 2019 will begin by setting the stage around Atlantic Canada’s current economic challenges and opportunities as a region. The morning will evolve into conversations around current investments and programs, which intend to support the economic health of Atlantic Canada. 


Afternoon: Economic impact of a Healthy Population

It is well researched that healthy communities and people have positive impacts on economic growth. In the afternoon on Day 1, discussions will be based around promising practices and innovative ideas for how the Atlantic Canadian economy could benefit from prioritizing investments in a healthier population.

  

Friday January 26: Healthy Communities and People


Morning: Innovation for Healthier Communities

ACPA 2019 will commence on Day 2 with informative presentations from leading health experts from across the region, examining current issues and opportunities in community health. The social determinants of health will be discussed from the perspective of Atlantic Canada’s changing demographic landscape and economic realities. 


Afternoon: Rethinking Healthcare

Atlantic Canadian provinces are facing rising healthcare costs, with pressure mounting on health systems. ACPA 2019 will explore innovative ideas and out of the box solutions for a more sustainable and efficient health system and economy.
